It has come to our attention that poeple can get free internet from ROL due to a flaw in their setup. It's stupid right? but we have tried it and it works and here are your free guide to free internet from ROLRumors are that N**** F**** has revealed to the public that ROL internet connectivity has a leak. We tried contacting him but he didnt response. Our investigation shows that ........
5 step free internet guide
(you need to have a a cable in your house which is provided by MESCO)
1. Buy cable modem. you can get it in most of the computer stores in male'.
2. Get MESCO cable connection in your house( this is if you dont have it currently)
3. Connect the modem to the cable.
4. Connect modem to PC
5. VOLA! free Internet.
hehe. yeah i know it seems so easy and me putting it in 5 steps and telling to connect modem to PC and stuff were stupid as well. But i just wanted to break it down into 5 steps so it looks cool.. anyway what the heck!
This to me is the biggest technical flaw in the history if IT in Maldives. from what i know the poeple at ROL are sweating buckets over this and still have not been able to find a solution :) and they are 24 hrs monitoring and disconnecting poeple who they THINK are doing this and in the process disconnecting a lot of paid internet users as well.
Btw All this is for educational purposes and we will not be taking any responsibilities on anyone using this technique to get free internet..hehe..anyway who cares, use it while you can, its not ure problem, it's theirs.. so happy surfing or shud i say downloading!

There are a lotta other things you can do to Focus Infocom... I guess the proxy thingy bout Dhiraagu also works with them. They do have a proxy server to sniff out ya traffics. ..... And their admins do watch your traffic. Try and see for yourself.
As far as I know, Nawal Firaq (brother of Ismail Firaq, ex Tourism Ministry and Mohamed Firaq, aka Infra in IRC sometime back) was in TV Maldives and was once a partner with Mr. Didi (M.D.) of Focus Computers and ran a computer shop called Spectrum. Dunno wot happened to them later.
oh well, highlighting a problem with an ISP isnt exactly bad... hopefully will keep them on their toes...
exactly fatty! im a dhiraagu and a focus infocom customer, and basically i want good service.and every point in finding a flaw or commenting on a problem is to get better and secure service. coz' we pay hell loads of money for their service and we demand better service for that, and not because of any personal vendetta :)

He was/is the IT guy in TVM and also does computer related tv stuff like special effects and he plays with the silicon graphics systems there (dont know wtf he does with them actually)
This guy does not work in Focus but he is a friend of the Focus people. He is now the consultant of Mesco for their setup. This Mesco setup is basically a network with Gaming and Video on demand that is coming up.
As far as this Focus internet being used freely, Focus is giving no comments on this and the issue has become convroversial rather than a technical problem.
We all want good service. It is good to pin point problems and Focus and Dhiraagu and Mesco and TV and everyone should listen and do what the customers/maldivian people want them to do.

Though nawal has other affiliations with mesco, he is not a consultant for the mesco network setup. Thought i'd clarify this.
Nawal can't be a consultant there. he could just be a friend of Ahmed(the owner of MESCO)who just visit there coz Nawal will not understand the kind of work which MESCO is upto. and also MESCO has got some good enough consultants for their ongoing project.

my comment is if u connect a new cablemodem to he MESCO cable it will give free internet& a good quality connection. the connection will be 256k hey guy it tru it work perfict gone get the best quality connection without paying. is there any ROL guys to comment to this. i got that for one week when i connect a modem to MESCO cable. so what the hack this ROL is doing they can control there own Bandwith while other use them free.
yes it has been happening and from my knowledge this is not a problem with Focus Infocom. But more a problem with MESCO. I will send a mail to this website of what has really been happening as far as i know and hope you post it as a seperate post in the blog. thanks

Please get your facts right before u submit ur theory, cos i know whats happening (not just "as far as i know" or "what i think is happening" or "from what i know"). its a total blunder of "u-know-who" and has nothing to do with MESCO. If u want a better understanding of whats happening, refer to the RFI specifications provided at http://www.cablemodem.com/specifications/
u may also want to read the Cisco documentations provided for provisioning
Anyone with the proper technical background can understand whats happening once he goes through all those.
btw the documents are quite lengthy. :)
For those who want a crash course, cable modems follow the DOCSIS standard. It explains very clearly all the steps a modem goes through to achieve connectivity. When standard procedure are not adhered or not understood it leads to problems such as these. hope that helps the impatient.
hey gusy i also know that mesco just carry the only what ROL provide. i dont think it will be any how MESCO problem. for my knolage i think it mich be there own setup problem. may be we can share with this how it is working. so these step i think is corrcet. it will work. is there any still using a cablemdem wihout paying. tell me is it still working oerfict

but am not complaining these days, cos i get a faster connection than my neighbour who uses a 128kb/s connection while mine is only 64kb/s

my cable modem was blocked by because i did not pay for months their service sucks when ever i call their help desk says something wrong with mesco "alhugandu men check koffa gulhaanan" or "mikolhun balaa iru eves masala ae nei pls check your pc" F*** ROL.

ROL sucks big time.
I have been given a static ip address and was having disconnections. I suspected on their DHCP server is leasing my ip to someone else and informed them. They denied that DHCP could be the problem. Sofi came and they even bound the MAC address of my router to the static ip. It didnt help either. Then Sofi said "Mi Software vikki meehun bunee mihen hedheema mikan rangalhu vaaneyoa, ekamakuves rangalheh nuveyoa". (I guess that gives some info bout their MACking the addresses).
They solved the problem by putting me on a different subnet which has ONLY two hosts (my router and i guess their router).
Once their tech guy came here and connected his laptop to our router and gave the laptop a static ip which is way out of the range I used on my router. Guess what would he end up with? He did this after consulting another guy from his office over the phone. (I was simply laughing behind their backs and didnt even say a word. LOL). They even dunno the basics of networking. Later I told Mr. Sobah not to send some clown who doesnt know the basics of networking to waste our time.
Also their General Manager (Mr. Adam Khan) is busier than our President or their Managing Director (Mr. Sobah). He is always at a meeting, never comes to calls. Since he failed to come to the phone, I sorta threatened him and then only he agreed to meet me face to face.
When ever we had a problem the issue has to reach Mr. Sobah or else it is never resolved.
The whole ROL sucks big time.

guys what a good story when they first started i called to that place asked do ther register other modem which we can from other country. the recp! told me know we only give connection to our modems only we register other kind of modem our net work she said. so it seems know no need of registration it free fro all. my god what a good news.

as far as im aware the ISP's do not have the authority to block any website.the order has to come from TAM. But if they do block it, they are inviting regulatory action against them, provided somebody does file a complaint.
i think they are going to bring the two together, to make mesco setup similar to jsat, so u will need user and password. this is almost confirmed i can guarantee you.
but why on earth have they not blocked those modems???????? i like this.

It's as simple as this. ROL system administrators are imcompetent because their provisioning systems are not configured well or the configuration is wrong.

there are two cmts there now? so how do you know if you are really on rol or mesco cmts? mesco can just put the same ip addresses as rol and rol can put the same ip addresses as mesco on their access servers and chaos! and so can mesco give their own internet.
if you are on such a modem visit

and see if it matches the ip on the computer you have and the ip shown on the web page. if they do not match, you can say mesco is doing shit. if they match and if they are in rol's ip range, you can say rol has a problem.

modems are available at Focus Infocomm 3323355 and Mesco Shop 3333666. Selling fast.
Their "MAC"in the address is just crap. They dunno how to configure the shit equipments they carry.
Sofi configured their access software in such a way so that the MAC address of my router gets the static IP I was assigned. In technical terms, bound the static IP to the MAC address. It didnt work! They are blaming the software company when they dunno how to configure. They always blame the others. Eg:-
1. Restart your PC
2. Restart your router
3. Do you have spyware in your PC
4. Is your virus updated
5. Take your antenna to roof (LOL).
They are simply crazy nuts.

i want it to be fine as soon as possible. i am a paid customer to ROL and i pay more than 1000 MRF every month for their service and why should others who have not paid get free internet? Because all this justifies how unsecure the server are and i am having a hard time trusting ROL now.

i just saw someone say what is mesco up to and that they might be providing free internet , but let me tell u something.
i believe there are seperate CMTS right now and CMTS's work in different RF frequencies. so mesco one will operate at a different frequency than ROL.
and to dreamxcape,
CMTS is cable modem termination system.basically it exchanges digital signals with cable modems on a cable network.

wtf?? u cant do that kakaka.....there is a MAC Adress In Your modem That wud access you to ROL server!! and btw there in a Config File With Our Server (ROL Sever) that required you too connect with our server!! so the above information is not good!!!
