ROL - Focus Infocom Internet Services DOWN!!!

It has come to out attention that ROL ( Raaje Online provided by Focus Infocom) services are currently down.

The services seem to have affected ROL's ability to provide internet services to the country. Currently it is being reported they are unable to provide internet access to any of their customers.
In addition to this wataniya , who has teamed up with ROL for their data services ( GPRS and WAP) are also unable to provide their customers with internet access.

Dhiraagu's connection is still up, possibly due to multiple connections they have in place to the internet backbone. That being said there are some issues connecting to Singapore and south/east Asian sites with Dhiraagu as well.

The cause of this outage is being attributed to the Taiwanese earthquakes that struck yesterday. Internet service in Asia slowed down after three earthquakes hit southern Taiwan yesterday according to (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aYHaxhLE4rr0&refer=home) and could possibly take weeks to repair those links.

taken from http://www.internettrafficreport.com , the graphs below show that Asia region's connectivity has deteriorated to a very bad state.

ISP's, Banks, and other Institutions with rely on the internet for it's operations have been affected in the region

Although the cause of the problem was a natural disaster, it is evident which ISP is better prepared for a situation like this. Dhiraagu is also be affected but the impact is minimal compared to Focus Infocom's ROL services.

Is it a better indication of who is a better ISP? Remains to be seen.

i wud have preferred if the ISP sent me an email explaining the situation, rather than reading it off someone's blog ....

unforseeable circumstances.
tough luck! but as fatty have said... should have been better prepared...

i would just like to add some mor einfo to the whole thing.

Due to the earthquake, the cable between Singapore and Taiwan got disrupted.
Currently SINGTEl, (singapore telecom company) provides satellite uplink for ROL. Therefore it all got effected.

no one knows how long it is going to take to repair it.. hopefully soon

today on CNN there was new that its been fixed and back to normal, but i dont see anything of that sort.

Also there have been news tthat its gonna be fixed in 2 days time

buit the sad part is, i have not heard anything regarding this from focus infocom on any news media or anything.

i saw some news gheadlines from wataniya last night, but shouldnt focus infocom be the ones who should be apologising to the public?

coz wataniya is also a client of focus infocom for their GPRS and WAP services.

anyway, get well soon

typical of focus infocom. they are going to blame singtel for the issue and not take any responisibility for it.

like you said atharey, they should have been better prepared, maybe they heard of multiple links?

sad, but typical ROL style. at least tell their customers whats going on!!! supposedly soba said it will be fixed around the 10th.

anyone want to bet that even the 12 days downtime. we are gonna get charged the full month? :D

typical.. typical.. sad but true

yes, ROL should have been better prepared, but i guess no one would have imagined this.

anyway, lessons to be learnt here and hopefully all this could lead to better service in the future.

btw. ROL is back OL!

hmm.. for ROL this becomes another case of keeping profits high. why bother invest in backup connections to ensure customers a reliable connection when customers keep shut and ROL keeps on earning the buck. shake up the fucking system ya all... shake it up.
